Metal Fixed Appliances
Often called ‘train tracks’ traditional metal fixed appliances are the most commonly used appliances for straightening teeth.
They are suitable for all patients and are very popular with children and younger adults.
Invisalign™ Aligners
Invisalign™ uses a series of near invisible, custom-made aligners that straighten the teeth without wires or brackets.
These clear aligners are completely removable, so they can be taken out for eating, tooth brushing and special occasions.

Removable Appliances
These braces can be removed from the mouth and are used for simple tooth movements.
They are often used for early interceptive corrections or to aid fixed appliance treatments.
Functional Appliances
These are a two part removable appliance which are used to correct top teeth that protrude too far ahead of the lower teeth.
These appliances only work in growing patients and tend to be used for the more severe cases.
Functional appliance therapy can be an extremely effective treatment and when used at the correct time can prevent the need for Jaw surgery later in life.
Removable Retainers
Retainers are used to hold the teeth in their new position once the treatment is finished.
Clear plastic retainers resemble a thin, clear gum-shield, which is custom made to fit perfectly over the teeth to keep them in place after treatment. We provide these retainers to all of our patients.
Hawley retainers resemble a removable appliance but they hold rather than move the teeth. We commonly use these in younger children after interceptive orthodontic treatment.
Permanent Retainers
Fixed bonded retainers consist of a thin stainless steel wire, which is permanently bonded behind the front teeth. They hold the teeth permanently in place but they are not needed in every case.
